Never-seen-before images of Michael Schumacher with a much younger future F1 champion have been revealed.
The legendary driver has not been pictured in public since his devastating ski accident in 2013, which left him with major head trauma.
Ahead of the start of the new Formula One season, Netflix's popular docuseries Drive to Survive released a teaser, which showed rare photos of the 54-year-old German.
One image shows a family friend 'Schumi' smiling at a very young Max Verstappen. Another shows him cradling his daughter Gina-Maria and the now 25-year-old two-time world champion.
In the episode, Verstappen says how he grew up alongside the Schumacher family because his father Jos was team-mates with Schumacher at Benetton.
'We used to go on holidays when we were little together, the two families, and these kinds of memories will stay with me.
'For both of us to be in F1 is amazing and also for Michael, he's a very proud dad for sure,' he says.
Also shown in the episode is an old clip of fathers Michael and Jos discussing the possibility of their sons racing against one another in F1, to which Michael joked that could be 'the first time we argue'.
Updates on Schumacher's condition are still unknown to the public. But the fifth season of Drive To Survive offers fans an insight into his life before the accident.
The German driver raced for Jordan, Benetton, Ferrari, and Mercedes. He and Lewis Hamilton share the record for the most World Drivers' Championship Titles - both with seven wins.
Verstappen will look to become a three-time consecutive world champion this year, a feat only achieved by four drivers including Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton.
Meanwhile, Schumacher's 23-year-old son Mick will work alongside Brits Hamilton and George Russell as a Mercedes reserve driver.
