Cook off challenge! What would you make with 7 random food items? If you choose to make a video with your 7 items, I will post and share it.

This is one of many activities during a 3 day virtual youth camp.

Food Storage/Creative Meal Cook Off
Each youth will be provided with the following items:
• (1) bag of ramen
• (1) can of vegetables (either corn, green beans or peas)
• (1) beef stick
• (1) Pixie Stick
• (1) caramel square
• (1) cup of fruit (either peaches or pineapple)
• (1) bag of pretzels

Requirements:
• Each young man must make an entree and a desert from the supplied food
• Each of the supplied items from the list above must be used in your entree and or desert
• Other food from your pantry/food storage may be used. The more creative, the better.

Principles behind this activity:
There are many principles behind this activity including spiritual and temporal. There will be many opportunities for you to cook for yourself and others as you are serving a mission, away at college or when you are married and have your own family. Knowing how to cook is an important skill and great talent to develop. Matthew 5:16 states “Let
your alight so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”. This is an important scripture as it relates to talents.

The gospel principles behind this activity are very simple. Being prepared and having a supply of food is important. Having a supply of food takes faith but the next step is being able to use food storage and to create a meal. During challenging times and difficult circumstances, individuals and families can and should use their food storage.

The purpose of becoming spiritually and temporally self-reliant is to become better able to serve the Lord and care for others (see John 15:8). The Savior invites us all to act, to stand independent, and to become as He is. He will help us. He has promised: “It is my purpose to provide for my saints, for all things are mine. But it must needs be done in mine own way” (Doctrine and Covenants 104:15–16).
