Tiger Eyes marks the first major motion picture adaptation from the work of iconic author Judy Blume, whose books have sold more than 82 million copies in 41 countries. Davey is a 17 year-old girl abruptly relocated by her grieving mother to the strange “atom bomb” town of Los Alamos, New Mexico. With the sudden and violent death of her father, the displaced Davey no longer knows who to be or how to fit in. Everything that once mattered suddenly seems insignificant. But when she meets Wolf, a mysterious young Native American, while exploring the surrounding canyons, she feels he is able to see past her pain and into her true self. The connection they make brings Davey back from the edge and sets her on a journey from heartbreak and confusion to life and love after tragedy.

Davey Wexler hat gerade erst ihren Vater bei einem schiefgelaufenen Überfall verloren und muss sich nun um ihre verzweifelte Mutter Gwen und ihren kleinen Bruder Jason kümmern. In der Hoffnung, dass ein Ortswechsel ihnen gut tun wird, ziehen sie zu Gwens Schwester Bitsy und deren Mann Walter nach New Mexico. Die tun ihr Bestes, um die trauernde Familie in ihr Leben einzubinden, aber der plötzliche Tod des Vaters und Ehemanns ist für Gwen und die Kinder nur schwer zu akzeptieren. Als Davey wieder zur Schule geht, freundet sie sich mit Jane an, die auch aus einer problembeladenen Familie kommt und ein Alkoholproblem hat. Eines Tages beschließt Davey, die umliegende Wüste zu erkunden und trifft auf ihrer Wanderung auf den älteren Wolf und die beiden werden Freunde. Wolf wächst zu einer Vaterfigur für Davey heran und hilft ihr mit der Zeit über ihren Verlust hinweg.
