Enoch ist ein todessehnsüchtiger Teenie, der regelmäßig auf Beerdigungen von Fremden vorbeischaut. Sein Freund ist der Geist eines japanischen Kamikazefliegers aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg. Er ist der einzige, mit dem er über Gott und die Welt plaudern kann, bis ihm die schöne Annabelle begegnet. Sie nimmt ihn bei der Beerdigung einer ihrer Freundinnen vor dem Pfarrer in Schutz, als der Enoch ein für allemal vom Friedhof vertreiben will. Der Junge verliebt sich gerade so schnell in Annabelle, wie die knappe Zeit es ihm erlaubt. Annabelle leidet an einer schweren Krankheit und wird nicht mehr lange leben.
