Oscar-nominated actor, John C. Reilly (Chicago, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby) and Seann William Scott (American Pie) lend their deft comedic touch to the story of two mid-level Chicago supermarket employees - Doug and Richard, a dubious new guy from Canada - who compete ruthlessly for a coveted managerial post at a new store location. Gewissenhaft werkelt sich der herzensgute Supermarkt-Angestellte Doug Strauber durch seinen unspektakulären Alltag. Bloß wurmt ihn, dass er sich und seiner erfolgreichen Arzt-Freundin Jen mit seinem kleinen Gehalt keine bessere Behausung finanzieren kann. Als er Wind vom geplanten Ausbau der Donaldson’s-Kette bekommt, wittert er seine Chance und bewirbt sich um das Amt des neuen Filialleiters. Blöd nur, dass der frisch aus Kanada angereiste Richard Wehlner ebenfalls scharf auf die Position ist. Bis die Personalentscheidung gefällt wird, heißt es also, der Chefetage zu imponieren. Schrittweise kommen sich die Kontrahenten näher. Doch es ist klar: Es kann nur einen geben. Und so beginnen Doug und Richard damit, sich gegenseitig auszumanövrieren...
