Over 1,000 bikers from all over the country turn out to escort 12-year-old boy at funeral on Christmas Eve

More than 1,000 motorcyclists from across the country turned out to pay tribute and escort a 12-year-old boy's coffin to his funeral on Christmas Eve. Jozef Stansiak, who loved the sound of motorbikes, was accompanied by the massive cortege on his final journey, after his grieving mother appealed on social media. Bikers revved their engines in respect for the little boy as his small white coffin - carried in a specially adapted motorbike and sidecar - passed by. The riders gathered at Carnon Downs, near Truro, Cornwall, on Saturday morning, following the young boy's death last week. Motorcycle-mad Jozef, who suffered from life limiting disabilities, died after a spell in hospital on December 14. Mum Heidi Stansiak asked Penryn and Falmouth funeral directors to put out an appeal for bikers to escort him to the church. The funeral directors put out a social media appeal and more than 1,000 bikers arrived to pay tribute. Jozef's funeral cortege left his home at 9:30am and was greeted by hundreds of bikers lining the route. Once the hearse reached the front of the procession, two funeral directors - dressed as Batman and Robin - led the procession onto the roundabout and dual carriageway before setting off in their vehicle. The bikers then followed, with it taking over ten minutes for the last one to finally head off down the A39. The procession was watched by hundreds of people, who lined the route to say their goodbyes. Only the first 50 bikes, which included Jozef's dad Dominik, followed the hearse all the way to the church. The rest of the convoy pulled into Falmouth Town Football Club, which opened up especially for the bikers. Organiser David Saunby said he was overwhelmed by the response - which almost surpassed the Martin Jennings Run turnout - the largest motorcycle charity ride in Cornwall. He said: "Tell you what. I've been overwhelmed. I've been welling up. It's getting nearly as big as the Jenning's run. I didn't expect this. It's a fantastic turnout."
