In this video we travel to the Bergell Valley, more precisely to Vicosoprano, a village about 30km southwest of St. Moritz. The place is the main location of the second Biennale Bregaglia, an exhibition that brings together national and international artists and invites them to show artworks that deal with the Bergell, its landscape and its history. The 2022 edition of the Biennale Bregaglia focuses on the connection between the villages of Bergell. The curators identify this connection in the geography of the valley, the forces of nature, the arrangement of the villages, and various natural-historical events and social-historical developments. Central are, for example, the trade route to the south, the construction of the pass road and the Albigna dam, the Reformation or the witch trials. The invited artists were asked to deal with this connection. The main venue of the exhibition is Vicosoprano, the former capital of Bergell, located in the middle of the Val Bregaglia.

The participating artists are: Zoé Cornelius, Rico Scagliola & Michael Meier, Jiří Makovec & Jiajia Zhang, Jeanno Gaussi, Julian Charrière, Andriu Deplazes, Lena Maria Thüring, Nevin Aladağ, Nilbar Güreş, Alexandra Navratil, Christian Hörler, and Val Minnig.

The Biennale Bregaglia 2022 is a project of the association Progetti d’arte in Val Bregaglia. The association was founded in 2012. It is committed to the promotion and implementation of exhibitions, projects as well as events of contemporary art in Val Bregaglia. The board of directors appoints the board of trustees, which is responsible for the organization and the selection of artists.

The Biennale Bregaglia 2022 is curated by the two art historians Bigna Guyer and Anna Vetsch. The biennial runs until September 24, 2022. The biennial runs until September 24, 2022.
