At the beginning of the 17th Century, Europeans viewed America as a wildland filled with mysterious inhabitants and an untapped Eden. Just as winter approached in November of the year 1620, the Mayflower landed in the New World, along with 101 British settlers driven out of England because they challenged the dictates of King James I. In the New World, these same settlers would be among those that would begin to forge a new nation under new guiding principles.
