1982 Nature of the Beast by Mark Fielding Darden

Isn't it interesting that you have to train a child to say "yes"... but every child instinctively knows the word "no" ???

It's just the nature of the beast…

Believe it or not, I was influenced by "I'm Free" by the Who when I wrote this song. Not the melody or words, but by the down beat that is mistaken for the back beat in the song. I thought that was cool.

The lyrics to this song are pretty much timeless. We are all working our tails off, just trying to make it through life's trials. Even people with lots of money have big problems... that money can't solve.

So, what do we do? We keep on gittin' it. Why? Because that's the Nature of the Beast. Does life have surprises? Aren't they usually not much fun? Do we have to live with them anyway? And then it gets worse? I can hear your beast roaring now.

MFD: drums, guitar, vocals
Milton Gore: awesome bass
Rodney Marsh: awesome sax, wow
Devon Martinez: cover art; she was a student of mine and twelve years old when she drew this.

Rodney and I had never met, but we had heard about each other. The day he came to my kitchen (early version of the Choke Monkey) he listened to the song and to my ideas and immediately put it all together. We recorded on my Teac 4 track machine and he was done in two hours max. A real pro.
