How a Smash Melee Prodigy is Breaking New Ground in a 19 Year Old Game

Super Smash Bros. Melee was released nearly 19 years ago in 2001, but nearly two decades later, Zain Naghmi is changing the game.

Much of Melee's history is defined by the ascent and reign of the game's five gods: Hungrybox, Mew2King, Armada, PPMD, and Mang0. For a long time, these players utterly dominated the top tier of Smash competition. But that era has now come to an end, and new, younger players are looking to build their own legacies in one of the most long-standing esports titles still in competition.

Among them, there are few who embody the spirit of Melee quite like Zain, and yet what makes him so remarkable is his ability to break rules long thought to have been set in stone. Through his almost unparalleled ability to learn and adapt, Zain did what no player before him had managed - he showed that Fox can have a losing match-up.

This is the story of Zain, the young Smash Melee star who's proving that it's still possible to surprise in a 19-year old game.
