ORE DEPOSITS 3101 Part 3 Porphyries, Skarns & IOCG

Metal deposits associated with the porphyry system include various types that can be characterized with respect to tectonic setting, metal grade, hydrothermal alteration patterns, and associated granite and wall rock types. Porphyry systems are generally characterized by three main features:
(1) dispersed sulfides of Fe, Cu, Mo, Pb, and Zn, and naturally occurring Au and W, Bi, and Sn; (2) mineralization is spatially and genetically associated with intrusions, at least one of which has a distinct porphyry texture (hence the name porphyry ). (3) A large amount of rock is affected by hydrothermal alteration mineralization.
