The U.S. Treasury Department announced that Series I bonds, an inflation-protected and low-risk asset, will pay 6.89 percent annual interest through April 2023. That’s down from the 9.62% yearly rate offered since May, and investors expect the rate to decrease as the Federal Reserve combats inflation. It’s the third largest rate since I bonds were introduced in 1998.
