21st-century healthcare established in Switzerland sets the standard for EU, following the implementation of the electronic patient file. This new national solution presents two significant advantages: the high level of data security and system compatibility.

00:00 In Switzerland, we decided a number of years ago to create the electronic file of the patient.
00:06 There was a legislative process at the national level to define the rules,
00:15 the laws, the regulations, but also the technical constraints
00:20 so that the different solutions that will be put in place are interoperable.
00:25 Then, in a second phase, there was a realization of technical platforms
00:30 to implement this electronic file of the patient,
00:33 to allow the patient to connect to it, to access their documents,
00:36 and to the professional to contribute and access the file if the patient authorizes them.
00:42 There are all the aspects of consent that still need to be clarified.
00:46 Do we want to allow the patient to say,
00:49 "I agree to share my data, but only for this clinical study"?
00:54 And if another clinical study comes up, the patient will have to give a new consent.
00:59 This can be very heavy for the patient,
01:02 it can be very heavy for research, for the use of data,
01:05 because there is a lot of consent to be asked for.
01:07 So we have to find the right balance between the heaviness and the access to information.
