So what exactly is the Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022?
Hi, I'm Indiana personal injury attorney David Holub.
We've been getting calls daily about this Camp Lejeune Justice Act.
So, I thought I’d make a short video to explain a little bit about what your rights are under the Act.
First of all, the Act is designed to address personal injuries suffered as a result of being exposed to water contamination at Camp Lejeune.
The time period covered by the Act is August of 1953 through December 31, 1987.
So, you have to establish that you were at least exposed to 30 days of the water contamination at the camp.
And, then you also must establish that you have suffered a particular disease. And, there are a number of different diseases that are presumed to have been caused by the water
contamination.
Those diseases are:
Adult leukemia
Aplastic anemia
Bladder cancer
Kidney cancer
Liver cancer
Multiple myeloma
Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and
Parkinson's disease
So, those things or those diseases qualify.
What you have to do is file a claim with the Judge Advocate General under the Tort Claims Division. And, it has to be done before August 10th of 2024. So there is a little bit of time.
There are some other illnesses that are kind of borderline illnesses, that would be:
Breast cancer
Esophageal cancer
Female infertility
Neurobehavioral effects
Renal toxicity, and some others.
You really would have to contact an attorney to double check, but veterans and civilians can both file a claim if they were exposed to these contaminants.
