Nearly 150 pet cats stolen for human consumption in China were reportedly rescued on August 25, 2022, before they ended up being sold in markets. Police in the eastern province of Shandong said meat traders stole the felines, most of them pets, by luring the animals into traps using live sparrows as bait. Although cats and dogs are only eaten infrequently by a small percentage of people in China, around 10 million dogs and 4 million cats are killed for human consumption each year in the country…
