Berniece Hicks was a female minister in William Branham's "Branham Tabernacle", appointed to teach Branham's congregation during the "Sunday School" part of the services. When the Branham movement spread to the West Coast, Hicks began a collaborating fellowship in California, where she and members of the California group continued to fellowship with Branham during the height of Branham's involvement with Latter Rain and until 1965. After leaving Branham's church, Hicks continued an isolationist sect of Pentecostalism in Jeffersonville that grew to an international presence. Until her death, Hicks was the leader and central figure of Christ Gospel Church International (CGC) headquartered in Branham's hometown of Jeffersonville, Indiana.

Hicks is very interesting when it comes to William Branham’s cult of personality. Most later versions of William Branham’s stage persona claimed to be strongly against women teachers and preachers. In fact, when members escape Branham’s “Message” cult, they are often falsely accused of rejecting Branham’s doctrine on women teachers and preachers. Yet the Rev. Sister Berniece Hicks was a Sunday School Teacher in Branham's Branham Tabernacle, which according to the Tabernacle operations, is the equivalent of "Assistant Pastor" in non-cult churches -- Hicks violated BOTH rules of Branham's doctrine against women teachers and preachers.
