A Melbourne housing and retail development has been given permission to allow untreated stormwater to flow into a suburban creek.

The 20-hectare Burwood Brickworks site was originally supposed to include a wetland to help remove nitrogen from the stormwater. But that idea was later canned... and environment groups say that means more pollution will find its way into the Yarra River.
