The 20th century was dominated by the Mafia, and New York City was their throne. With the 5 main Families, Bonanno, Colombo, Gambino, Genovese, and Lucchese, and their respective bosses, the Mafia was quite literally a Fortune 500 company. The Mafia had their rackets such as drugs, loan sharking, money laundering, extortion, murder, and many other schemes and scams. However, they also controlled unions, they controlled waste management, restaurants, the garment industry, docks, ships, construction, hotels, hospitals, and much, much more. The mob had engrained themselves within American business and society to the point where they had their hand in nearly every industry. There was no stopping them.
