Federal government to collect ethnicity data at next census

The federal government has announced it will begin collecting ethnicity data as part of measuring diversity in Australia, a move long called for by experts and multicultural community groups. Until now, government agencies have asked for information on place of birth and language spoken raising concerns they're getting an incomplete picture. The federal minister for immigration Andrew Giles says Australia can't take its success as a multicultural society for granted.
