Charley Straight's Orchestra - Just A Night For Meditation

Straight started his musical career in the early 1910's as a solo pianist, and led his first band around 1917. It was a hotel dance band that, besides the ordinary repertoire, played quite a lot of jazzy arrangements, especially to be found on his early 20's Paramount recordings. Although Straight didn't record after August 1928 he remained active as a bandleader until his death in 1940, when he was killed in a car accident. This lovely interpretation was recorded in 1928. Leader Charley Straight also plays the piano and the vocal is by Frank Sylvano. Further personnel included: Gene Caffarelli, cornet; Bob Conselman, drums; Guy Carey and Randall Miller, trombone; Joe Gist and Dale Skinner, clarinet and alto saxophone; Leo Murphy, violin; Wally Preissing, tenor saxophone; Frank Stoddard, clarinet and tenor saxophone; Bob Strong, mellophone, clarinet, alto saxophone and violin as well as Ike Williams, tuba.
