These guys created a perfect workplace for their mancave. They built a workbench with shelves inside the garage from scratch. The creative guys created a place to accommodate a mini-fridge and stocked it with cold beverages. They also added a Bluetooth speaker and TV over the upper area of the fantastic workbench.

00:00All right guys, so here's the 3d design of Mike's garage and his workbench in all her glory
00:04so it's gonna be a 10 foot by 8 foot L shaped built in and
00:08To refine our man cave for Mike here
00:11We're gonna add those 45s on the floating shelf and on the workbench top that way you can scoot in a stool
00:17Pop up and watch some TV or do some YouTube research
00:21We're also gonna trim out and place in a dorm fridge
00:25So for that quick grab of a refreshing beverage whenever you're doing your hard work on this workbench or tinkering around
00:32It's always good to have those handy. So we're also going to do a
00:38Shaker door front here. So this is gonna be five doors
00:42We're gonna range those in size so you get some wider materials in here
00:46These will be three foot roughly in width and then two foot roughly in width for these three
00:50So the material drop from this plywood
00:53Workbench top will go to get ripped down into four inch strips to make these shaker front
00:59So we're not going with the premium pine by any means again, you know, it's a garage workbench. It's a man cave
01:05So we're just gonna use some drop from the existing materials we have and save some money there
01:10So one other thing we have to take into consideration for Mike's garage is his breaker panel
01:15So we are building into the corner where the breaker panel resides
01:18probably have to modify the floating shelf a little bit to facilitate the wires that are running to and from the house and
01:23Then we need to drive this workbench high enough
01:26Or I'm sorry the floating shelf high enough to allow the circuit breaker door to swing open
01:31we also want to make sure we can access the hardware to completely remove the panel front to do any type of maintenance or additions to
01:39Circuits there. So that's the 3d design you guys are new to the channel
01:43Always break down the workbench in a 2d fashion just to give you a basic idea
01:48Structurally of what we're getting ready to do. So it's a 24 inch workbench top
01:52That's made efficiently so you can rip a 4 foot by 8 foot sheet of plywood down and use it economically there
01:58Mike we're gonna do a 40 inch and this is a really good average height 40 inch workbench top again
02:04By cutting your stud length height here for your vertical structure. You can drive that
02:10Workbench height to whatever you desire so you can make this custom to you
02:14we're gonna do a 24 inch tall shelf inside that T structure and then
02:20Again, we're gonna do a 12 inch floating shelf total dimension up top here. So Mike's working with all concrete
02:27So we're gonna use concrete anchors concrete nails or a variety of those for the assembly of this
02:33But keep in mind you may only need construction screws if you're going into wood substrate
02:39So this is the first for big Logan channel, but I am gonna put together materials list
02:43So this compiles everything even on the optional list of that. I sent Mike to the store to get again if you're not doing
02:50Masonry work then you're not gonna need to get wedge anchors masonry bits
02:55If you're not going to do a drawer front, you can eliminate the two three eights by
03:00Four by eight foot sheet of plywood. So these can come off the list and you can upgrade your one quarter inch plywood
03:07Sheet to two and again keep that in mind. That's for a 10 foot by 8 foot
03:12Built-in L shaped workbench with the floating shelf. So we got all the materials
03:17I'm heading to Mike's and we're gonna get this day started. Let's do it. Alright, so we're ready to go here
03:22Everything is cleaned up and just like the last time we're gonna build the vertical two sections here
03:28So we're gonna finish out at 40 inches tall for this workbench exactly 40 right under that outlet
03:357 inch stack up just like in the 2d design
03:38So we're gonna cut in 33 inch vertical pieces here to build out the 6 foot section and the 10 foot section
03:46Let's do it. We got to work on Mike's
03:49Selection of hardware check out that bad boy. It looks like a recurve bell
04:0410
04:14Foot run mini fridge one, two three drawers and shelving 20 inches out from the wall
04:22Right. There's our marks. All right, so we're gonna pre-drill for the concrete masonry nails
04:28These we're pre-drilling with the TAPCOM 360 drill bit and then we're gonna send the old spikes back in these things work great
04:34Pound them in right over the bottom there. Hit or pat or let's get at her. You know that one angled in a little bit
04:40All right, so don't go with the grain of the wood for this you want to go
04:44With the grain like that. No, it doesn't split this. Okay
04:49Mike is wearing safety glasses to
04:52Safety glasses
04:54Mike is wearing safety glasses to safety first
05:07Butter much better. That's time to cook paint Bob. I'll say Brian's the cut guy. How straight are they?
05:17Okay, this is where we're gonna butt up against our 10-foot rocks
05:20We're adding another one here for a nailer for hinges because we are doing drawers on this unit like we talked about so
05:26One two, three, four five actually on the workbench
05:31We'll quit standing around boys. Let's get to her
05:35Whack it tacky. Let's get at it. I'm it's like on rapid fire here
05:42How's all Milwaukee treating you oh pretty good man, they're still trusty as ever tighter than skin on the grace
05:51A
05:55Lair for these nice big 35 inch drawers by design 35 earth
06:01Yeah, we only got 10 hinges. So we'll let her ride Clyde. This board is intentionally sideways to meet up with this right here
06:12Wham bam, thank you, ma'am
06:1620 inch dimension
06:19From the wall
06:24Dogs are barking time for some nails a
06:34We are full-fledged under construction on the workbench top portion now
06:39So Mike has the breaker box there and the OSB coming off the wall a little bit
06:43So this isn't necessary for every build but because we have that we're backing that two inches away from the wall to clear that
06:50So that'll start the long 10-foot run and then we'll L right off of this and go with our six-foot piece
06:56So I have to rearrange here and build away. Let's get to it
07:14This
07:24Is again that bump out for spread it by the breaker you guys ready to carry her in
07:28That's
07:39Looking good. So this is all just floating here right now
07:42So what we're gonna do is toenail screws in because this is gonna drive the exact workbench height
07:47Then we'll put a level here and we're gonna send in the anchor wedges into the block
07:51So this is called a toenail screw for those of you aren't familiar a toenail is just gonna take a start of an angle
07:58And then drive in from the sides all the way around that's gonna lock in that workbench top and abroad. That's right
08:04I'm just here for the free food
08:06What we're doing is putting in pre-drilled holes
08:11for the anchor wedges
08:13Wedge anchors and some others call them. I'm gonna show you a bigger one. I brought them that left over from a project
08:19This is a half-inch wedge anchor. So what this does is
08:23Goes into your concrete substrate
08:27See how this is like a moving collar
08:30Whenever you tighten this nut down
08:32It wants to pull this back out
08:35This wedge is in and then spreads out. So we're doing 3 8 wedge anchors
08:40So we need a 3 8 inch masonry bit and preferably a hammer drill
08:46So a little more complicated to go into the block versus the stud on your back wall
08:52But we're gonna make it happen. So let's go check in
09:27We tried three sixteenths by two and three-quarter tap comms into the porous concrete of the block
09:34We were trying to be optimistic that they would work and not pull out. No go
09:38So we have plenty of 3 8 anchor wedges. There you go. Thank you
09:42So we're just gonna run these to do our back shelving boards inside the workbench here
09:48So we need a single run 2x4 which you can see here basically a back plate
09:52Over here and over here and then we'll do a front plate against the actual vertical structure of the 2x4s
09:58Then we'll set our shelf top right on there. Same thing for the floating shelf coming up
10:03One, two
10:19Winning. Nice floating shelf. Pre-drilling for the anchor wedge
10:24Throwing chips and packing lips
10:33Don't worry about me guys, I'm just holding up the whole floating shelf man. This is the dream team right here. Check that out guys
10:39I don't know how we got so good. That's the dream team right here. Yeah, Mikey and Brian dude
10:45Sending it another anchor wedge pressing nice of the wood and it is looking
10:51good
11:03You
11:19Look at that. Oh my god
11:24To have it to hold and to keep your beer cold. All right, so the mini fridge is in
11:29Now let's do the workbench top. Oh, it's it's kind of perfect. Anyways, that's how we designed it eight-foot workbench
11:36Enough said to the chopping block this way boys
11:59You
12:05All right, check it out we got better homes and gardens this from Walmart in the US
12:1216 foot flat LED strip
12:15and a roll of scotch mount double-sided tape and
12:20Anything 3m product we trust that so it's going up all along here. Let's get to it
12:28A
12:3816-foot LED strip literally just a little bit. I'll put one right here too at the very start in the very end
12:44So that little better homes Walmart brand LED light strip. It was just a daylight color man
12:51It is brightening up the workspace. It is awesome. It's very balanced. It looks awesome guys and Brian
12:58Put this Bluetooth speaker underneath the 45 and then we get the TV up top
13:04This is turning out to be a pretty sweet man cave station
13:08fridge TV Bluetooth speaker LED light bar
13:12It's rocking and rolling. So this is the trim out for the workbench
13:29I
13:32Want to tack that in all the way down then do these drawer fronts
13:35Okay, so all our drop from doing the plywood workbench top we rip these down to four inch sections
13:41So these are gonna make our shaker fronts for all these cabinets to beautifully and ornately trim them out
13:48Right around here. We're gonna box those in shaker them out and close this project out. Let's get to it
13:58I
14:28Well that wraps up this project
