How It’s Made Manufacturing Cymbals

Commercially available groove manufacturing processes include liquid metal casting, stamping and twisting. Due to safety and cost reasons, most people cannot perform this industrial process at home. However, you can use techniques that mimic the hybrid creation process and achieve similar results. While your finished product will not have the professional shine of liquid spruce, it will definitely produce a distinctive metallic sound.

Things you will need:
Metal drill
Electric drill
Blue lantern
13 by 13 inch sheet brass, maximum 1/8 inch thick
Phillips screwdriver
Metal file
Wood cutting board
Nuclear hammer
Hat proof gloves
Hand rotary cutter
Large saucepan lid
Place the saucepan lid on your sheet metal and make a template around it. Brass works because it is relatively inexpensive, durable and resonant. Choose a hat that is between 9 and 13 inches in diameter, so that the gongle you make matches the gongle you bought at the store.

To make a brass disc, cut around the outline with a manual rotary cutter, such as a dermal tool. Leave a gap of about 1/8 inch between the tool and the line.

File a brass disc with a metal file around the edge. This is a more accurate way to maintain the desired order and also gives a smooth finish to the edges.

Drill a power drill and butt hole in the middle of the brass disc, no larger than 5 inches. This is where you find out.

Open the handle from the top of the pan lid with a screwdriver. Keep the handle to one side.

Cover the saucepan lid with aluminum foil. Place it upside down on a wooden cutting board.

Wear a pair of heat resistant gloves. Place the brass disc on the lid of the saucepan.

Due to its soft dome shape, the pan lid is an ideal template for crabs.
Heat a blue flashlight in the middle of a brass disc until it softens. Gently tap the brass against the lid of the pan with the jeweler's hammer to shape it. It's called "Sunday." Rotate the brass disc in the center as a smooth curve of the brass cap and slowly move the heat from the center to the edge. This process can take up to 30 minutes or more. Gently press the brass and apply heat evenly. After pouring, let the brass cool for half an hour.
Remove the brass from the lid of the saucepan. If the sheet sticks to the inside, remove it.
Heat in the middle of the hyacinth. Hit the center of the hyacinth with a nuclear hammer. Tap gently until the center bell rings. This is important for hybrids because the curve contributes to the sound. The hood should be about 3 inches above the center of the hood.
