Presenting the Union Budget in the Lok Sabha, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday, 1 February, announced the launch of a mental health programme, saying that the COVID-19 pandemic has "accentuated mental health problems".

The National Tele Mental Health Programme will be launched for mental health counselling with NIMHANS (National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences) as the nodal centre.
