Pattaya is a city on Thailand’s eastern Gulf coast known for its beaches. A quiet fishing village as recently as the 1960s, it’s now lined with resort hotels, high-rise condos, shopping malls, cabaret bars and 24-hour clubs. Nearby, hillside Wat Phra Yai Temple features an 18m-tall golden Buddha. The area also features several designer golf courses, some with views of Pattaya Bay

A visit to Pattaya is a wonderful way to explore the beaches along the Gulf of Thailand. Relaxed and family-friendly Jomtien Beach is a hot spot for watersports and seaside massages. The giant Buddha of Wat Khao Phra Bat keeps watch over the city, and the wooden Wang Boran Sanctuary of Truth pays homage to Buddhist and Hindu art and architecture. At night, tons of bars and strip clubs attract an adults-only crowd.

Thailand is full of amazing and diverse sights, and an equal variety of souvenirs. Whether shopping for friends back home, that special someone, yourself or even your house, there is a seemingly never-ending supply of things that are absolutely perfect. Just do not get carried away though, or you will be paying extra baggage fees at the airport, and nobody wants to do that.

Two important things to remember—first, always haggle while street shopping (the starting price is never the real price); second, do not buy the first thing you see, there is plenty to choose from and always more stores, no need to rush.

Tropical sun. Beaches. Ferry rides. Outdoor adventures and motorcycle trips. Make sure you have several pairs of good sunglasses; yes, multiple. Sunglasses are always getting lost and broke in Thailand. Thankfully, they are also sold at practically every store in Pattaya. However, for the best price head down to the Beach Road (if you are not there already) and look for one of the guys wearing 18 pairs of sunglasses at once.

Price range: Expect to be initially quoted as much as 200 baht if you are only buying one pair, but haggle him down or grab more pairs for 100 baht each. Now leave the fancy sunglasses you came to Thailand with safely in your hotel room and rock the Thai knockoff sunglasses. When they fall off while parasailing, you will be glad you did.

It should be no surprise that Thailand, a country known for its massages and spa treatments, also makes amazing toiletries and personal care products. Far beyond the mere basics in your shower, we’re talking body scrubs, herbal lotions, massage oils, bubble bath and more. All available in dozens of different mineral and herbal combinations.

If you need something to take home, whether for yourself or for that special someone, a Thai spa gift set will be the trick. Small sets packaged in a half-coconut shell or a wooden container complete with a scented candle and carved soap can be found for can be found at souvenir shops around Pattaya. Higher-end products can be found at proper spas.
