The park was first founded in 1972 by the Hudelmair family under the name "Safari Park" as an animal park mostly and only in 1995 changed the name to the well known Schwaben Park. Originally, the plans were to drive visitors with the park's railway through an enclosures of lions and tigers, but those plans never approved. The park's first ride came in 1978 and was originally a small Ferris wheel. In 1983, the park got its first major attractions, a 180-deegree cinema came, the last out of its king to operate at Germany.
In 1989, their first coaster arrived,Himaliabahn,a Schwarzkopf Wildcat which later been removed for a new ride in 2016,"The Fairy Tale Ride".
