President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s Talk to the People | JANUARY 06, 2022

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte meets with several of his Cabinet Secretaries and medical experts for the second time this week to discuss the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation in the country and other matters of national concern during the Talk to the People in Malacañan Palace on January 6, 2022.

The President expresses his concern on the sharp rise of COVID-19 positive cases in the country in just a matter of days and reiterates his position that unvaccinated people should be restrained in their mobility. He directs all barangay captains to implement the various laws applicable in regulating the mobility of unvaccinated people, such as remaining in their residences and prohibitions on several activities in order to protect public health and impose public order.
He urges all unvaccinated Filipinos not to procrastinate in getting inoculated as this will prevent severe infections and save lives, since transmissions now affect entire families. He stresses that hospitals are getting full which is why he is ordering the opening of several facilities to serve as quarantine and isolation facilities. He also instructs the concerned government agencies to tap more doctors and nurses, even as he calls for more volunteer doctors and nurses from his ‘kababayans’ as the hospital workforce is affected due to many health care workers getting infected.

The Chief Executive reminds the Filipino people to observe minimum public health standards amid the highly transmissible Omicron variant and obey persons in authorities who will be implementing stricter guidelines in the current Alert Level System. He assures his countrymen not to panic as the national government is doing everything it can to address the current COVID-19 situation.
