1887 time capsule held US civil war relics but no Abraham Lincoln photo

A 134-year-old time capsule found under a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee in Richmond, Virginia, was opened on December 28, 2021. The long-awaited find unearthed US civil war relics, coins, historical documents and a magazine page. Historians had hoped for a rare photo of Abraham Lincoln in his coffin, but it was not among the artefacts.  An earlier discovery of a box at the site was believed to have been placed by the statue’s designers.
