People organized a protest march agains the statement of Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament wherein he characterised the shooting of 14 civilians by the paramilitary forces as caused first by "mistaken identity" and then "self defence" in the face of aggressive locals who set fire to vehicles and equipment. They are demanding an apology from the Home Minister and also the repeal of AFSPA or Armed Forces Special Powers Act, something that has been raised by Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma, while Nagaland's CM Neiphiu Rio has said that the law is being misused.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation within and outside Nagaland and brought the reality of insurgency in the northeast to the forefront.
