On December 3, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to move northwestwards. It will ntensify into a cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours. On December 2, the Odisha government issued measures to prevent its adverse effects. Low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal continues to develop in view of Cyclone Jawad. On December 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review preparedness to deal with Cyclone Jawad. PM Modi tweeted, “Various authorities are on standby. I pray for everyone’s safety and well-being.” IMD said that the low-pressure region in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into Cyclone Jawad and is expected to reach the coast of north Andhra Pradesh - Odisha around the morning of December 4.
