Omicron confirmed in 24 countries as new Covid-19 variant continues to spread

The Omicron coronavirus variant had been detected in 24 countries as of December 1, 2021. Since the first case involving the new latest strain was identified in South Africa on November 24, Omicron’s spread has triggered tighter travel restrictions in a number of countries and regions around the world, including several in Asia.
