Harlem is home to well over 500 places of worship. St. Mary’s Episcopal – Manhattaville is located in an area once know as Manhatanville, now renamed West Harlem.
St. Mary’s sit in the footprint of Columbia University’s Expansion Project. The church is a leading vocal opponent to Columbia’s use of eminent domain of 17 acres of West Harlem.
The Rev Earl Kooperkamp is rector of St. Mary’s, in this film he discusses the St. Mary’s mission and approach to social justice along with spiritual justice.
