हिमयुग के समय Mammoth पूरी धरती पर राज करते थे. Arctic के बड़े इलाके में घास के मैदान थे, जहां पर कई प्रकार के जीव-जंतु रहते थे. लेकिन फिर ये धीरे धीरे खत्म हो गए. नई स्टडी में पता चला है कि जलवायु परिवर्तन की वजह से Mammoth खत्म हो गए. इनके साथ बालों वाले गैंडे भी मारे गए. इस स्टडी में यह बताया गया है कि इंसानों के पूर्वज हाथियों के दादा-नाना के साथ रहते थे.
