Pakistani plane becomes first foreign commercial flight to land in Kabul

A Pakistani passenger plane has touched down at Kabul airport, becoming the first foreign commercial flight to arrive in the country since the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan. A journalist aboard the flight from Islamabad has been quoted as saying that there was more staff than passengers on the aircraft. A spokesman for the Pakistani airlines said the flight will carry people holding valid travel documents from Kabul. The airport was severely damaged during a chaotic evacuation of more than 120,000 people that ended with the withdrawal of US forces on August 30. The Taliban have been trying to get it operating again with technical assistance from Qatar and some other nations. Qatar Airways operated several charter flights out of Kabul last week, while an Afghan airline resumed domestic services on September the third.
