Double-Stack Container Train | Cost effective Freight System
Double-stack rail transport is a form of intermodal freight transport in which railroad cars carry two layers of intermodal containers. Invented in the United States in 1984 it is now being used for nearly seventy percent of United States intermodal shipments.
They use regular container loading wagons, but they stack two containers on top of each other per wagon. In this way, each train automatically doubles its capacity, saving CO2 emission both from rail and road transport. However, this type of train is not something new for the Indian freight sector
