New POPI act to protect consumers and business

From today, you can lodge a complaint if your personal information is distributed without your consent. The Protection of Personal Information Act is now in effect. It regulates what kind of information or data can be used from individuals. Employers who fail to comply with the act could face 10 years' imprisonment or receive a R10 million fine.
