Centre sets target to reduce 50% road accident deaths by 2024

Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari on June 17 said that the Centre's target is to reduce road accident deaths by 50 per cent by the year 2024. The Minister pointed out that 50 per cent of the road accidents are due to road engineering problems and now the government has taken special initiatives to improve the black spot.

“50% of road accidents occurred due to road engineering problems. The people who're preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR), because of their attitude for cost-saving they neglect the thing and making a lot of black spots,” Gadkari said.

“The govt has taken a special initiative to improve the black spots. 15-20% responsibility (of road accidents) is going for the drivers and 10-15% is with automobile engineering. The government's target is to reduce road accident deaths by 50% by the year 2024,” he added.
