Beyond The Headlines 23 | No Place for Kashmir in ‘One Country, One Constitution’

In this episode of Beyond The Headlines, The Wire's Siddharth Varadarajan explains – by presenting just three exhibits: the words of a senior Modi government minister, the judgment of a high court, and the provisions of the country’s Juvenile Justice Act – that Modi couldn't be more wrong when he said, in his independence speech, that Kashmir has now become a part of BJP's 'One Country, One Constitution' mantra.

The evidence he provides makes it clear that we may be ‘one nation, one constitution’ but Modi and his colleagues don’t believe Kashmir is a part of it. They are subjecting the people of Kashmir to special rules and laws that they would not dare to impose on people in the rest of India. Worse, a lot of what the government is doing is clearly illegal under that one constitution of ours.
