The Ghost town of Franklin Alaska: Fortymile River

Mining for gold can take you way off the beaten path but believe it or not there is often a lot of history all around you. Its always good to take a moment and trace the steps of the first gold prospectors and visit their former towns that brought them clear across the country hoping to strike it rich.

Franklin, Alaska was the site of the first major gold strike in Interior Alaska. It was a living town from 1887 to 1948 but is now a ghost town with its remnants being taken over by the Alaskan wilderness.
