Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Awang Tengah Ali Hasan reportedly said he would pay a compound for failing to wear a facemask in public.
Awang Tengah said that he had forgotten to put his mask back on while rushing off after a meal.
This came after a video showing him walking past a row of food and beverage stalls without a mask had gone viral on social media platforms.
In the 25-second clip, he also appeared to be handing out RM50 each to five traders as he walked past and was given a drink from one of the stalls.
According to Borneo Post today, police have contacted him about the issue and informed him that he would be issued a compound, which he intends to pay. The incident reportedly occurred during his visit to Matu.
Awang Tengah added that he was in a hurry at the time, and the money for the traders was to pay for his purchases that his special officer would collect later.
