How old-age makeup is designed for movies and TV

Sometimes, performers will need to be aged up for a role. For occasions like this, special makeup effects artist Kevin Yagher will create prosthetic pieces and makeup. For "Bill & Ted Face the Music," Yagher made Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter look like they were 95 years old. In order to do this, he first took lifecasts of the actors to see where wrinkles and droopage are beginning so he can then accentuate them. He then has to sculpt deep wrinkles while making sure parts of their bone structure are visible. Then, he can airbrush tiny pores onto the skin and meticulously paint on broken capillaries and liverspots. He also realized he could make the two actors look older by giving Winter a pair of contact lenses that give off the appearance of cataracts while adding fake eyebags to Reeves.
