When the communist government raises food prices in 1962, the rebellious workers from the small industrial town of Novocherkassk go on strike. The massacre which then ensues is seen through the eyes of a devout party activist.

Co-written and directed by Andrei Konchalovsky, the film was entered in competition at the 77th Venice International Film Festival where it won the Special Jury Prize. It was selected as the Russian entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards.

The film is based on a true story that happened on June 1st and 2nd, 1962 in Novocherkassk and was kept secret until the nineties. The first official investigation was only initiated 30 years later, in 1992.

Dear Comrades! gets an exclusive virtual cinema launce on 29th January and then hits On Demand on Hulu on 5th February 2020.
