Thanks to a charity called Save Philly Restaurants, Philadelphia restaurant workers will get free COVID-19 tests.But unfortunately, that idea is the exception rather than the rule.More than 11 months into the pandemic, there's still no cohesive plan to protect at-risk workers in the hospitality sector.And while the vaccines are being deployed to healthcare workers, it may take months before they make it to restaurant workers.Restaurant owners have innovated, employing technology like temperature screeners and apps to monitor employees.But those plans aren't foolproof and may even provide a false sense of security.What surely can keep people safer, epidemiologists have discovered, is frequent testing.And it's past time that more testing programs start keeping these vastly under-appreciated frontline workers safe
