Coronavirus: Anxiety growing over new COVID-19 strain in the UK

Canada’s top doctor says a rapid-spreading variant of the novel coronavirus found in the United Kingdom has not yet been found in this country.

The federal government is working with provinces to monitor for the new variant. As Mike Le Couteur explains, there are concerns about Canada’s ability to track and limit its arrival.

Meanwhile, after many European nations moved to isolate the United Kingdom because of the new strain, France’s border with the U.K. is about to reopen.

The two governments have reached a deal that would allow EU nationals to travel, subject to a negative COVID-19 test.
