Mahashay Dharampal Gulati, Owner Of MDH Spices Dies At 98

Mahashay Dharampal Gulati, the owner of MDH Masala, passed away on the morning of December 3. 98-year-old Gulati was undergoing treatment at a hospital for the last three weeks as per a report in the Times Of India. He suffered cardiac arrest on the morning of December 3. Gulati became synonymous with the brand due to the popularity of MDH advertisements in which he regularly featured. The MDH owner, fondly called ‘dadaji’ and ‘Mahashayji’ was born in 1923 in Sialkot, Pakistan. Gulati, a school dropout joined his father’s spices business in Sialkot and, after partition, moved to India where he opened a shop in Karol Bagh in Delhi. And from there, he built the entire group to one of India’s leading spices manufacturer expanding to 15 factories. MDH has offices in Dubai & London. It has more 60 products but gets a bulk of its sales from three variants – Deggi Mirch, Chat Masala and Chana Masala. MDH owner ran a number of educational institutes and a 300-bed super speciality hospital in Delhi.
