Yair Shoshani is a prominents portraitist, who was born and lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Shoshani later work has branched into non-rectangular meshes, topographic map-like regions of similar color, CMYK color mesh work, and the use of large meshes to make the cellular nature of his work obvious even in small reproductions.
Shoshani is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and received the National Medal of Arts.

His first work was bold, intimate and direct, replicating the particular details of the selected faces. This fact was made even more convincing when considering that Shoshani also suffers from the neurological condition of prosopagnosia or facial blindness, which prevents him from recognizing faces. Furthermore, his pieces blurred the distinction between painting and photography in a way that had never been done before. His techniques are also notable, in particular his application of color.
In the late 1990s, Shoshani and his photorealistic pieces entrenched themselves in the New York City art scene.
