It is believed that Chhath Maiyya is very generous and she becomes happy on her devotees soon but also gets annoyed at small talk. मत्स्य पुराण और नारद पुराण में छठ पर्व का विशेष महत्व बताया गया है। पुराणों के अनुसार, छठ का पर्व करोड़ों सालों से मनाया जा रहा है। चार दिवसीय छठ पर्व आज से शुरू हो चुका है। इन चार दिनों छठ मैय्या की विधि विधान से पूजा की जाती है और कुछ नियमों का पालन किया जाता है। मान्यता है कि छठ मैय्या बहुत उदार हैं और वह अपने भक्तों पर जल्द प्रसन्न हो जाती है लेकिन छोटी सी बात पर नाराज भी हो जाती हैं। छठी मैय्या का आशीर्वाद प्राप्त करने के लिए इनकी पूजा में कुछ बातों विशेष का ध्यान रखना चाहिए।
