US shoots down mock intercontinental ballistic missile with ship-based interceptor off Hawaii

A missile interceptor launched from a US Navy ship in the Pacific Ocean hit and destroyed a mock intercontinental-range ballistic missile (ICBM) in flight on November 16, 2020. The exercise off the US state of Hawaii was the first successful test of the system which is part of the Pentagon’s push to develop defences against ICBMs capable of striking the United States.
