The Chinese submersible Fendouzhe has carried three men a depth of 10,909 metres (35,790ft) below the surface of the Pacific Ocean in the Mariana Trench, the deepest location on Earth. The November 10, 2020, mission also broke China’s record for deepest crewed dive in the western Pacific Ocean, according to Chinese state media. China has been conducting such dives for scientific research as well as to locate deep-sea resources.
