Vinoba Bhaves 124th Birth Anniversary: Remembering The Founder Of The Bhoodan Movement

Acharya Vinoba Bhave, born Vinayak Narahari Bhave, was a freedom fighter and follower of Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings of non-violence who worked tirelessly throughout his life for the disenfranchised and the downtrodden. In a letter to Vinoba, Gandhi wrote, “I do not know in what terms to praise you. Your love and your character fascinate me and so does your self-examination. I am not fit to measure your worth. I accept your own estimate and assume the position of a father to you”. Vinoba Bhave also founded the Bhoodan movement which ensured that 5,000,000 acres of land were handed over to landless peasants in post-independence India.
