Cyclone Nisarga, the first such storm to threaten Mumbai in over a century, is barreling towards the Maharashtra & Gujarat coasts. Cyclone Nisarga is expected to make landfall near Alibaug, about 100 km from Mumbai around 12 noon on June 3, 2020. IMD said that the wind conditions will further increase upto 100-110, gusting to 120 kmph, as conditions are favourable for intensification. Over 30 NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams have been deployed in areas expected to be affected along Maharashtra & Gujarat coasts. In Mumbai, over 10,000 people, including some coronavirus patients, have been moved to safer locations. Mumbai's civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has put out a list of dos and don'ts for citizens. CM Thackeray asked the residents of Mumbai to be prepared to face possible power cuts as strong winds hit the city. He asked them to charge their gadgets and if possible, keep emergency lights handy. PM Narendra Modi has spoken with Thackeray, Gujarat CM & the administrator of Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli to assure support from the centre.
